Baseball Plays No. 1 Texas A&M

SHREVEPORT --  It will be a tough first two games for the Centenary baseball team, as it plays No.1 Texas A&M on  Tuesday and Wednesday. The Gents will open the season, while the Aggies are 4-0 after playing Wright State over the weekend.

 

Centenary will send junior Dakota Robinson to the mound on Tuesday and senior Joe Hagen on Wednesday. Robinson (5-3) was second on the team in innings pitched with 71.2, while Hagen (2-5) spot started and tossed 45.2 innings.

 

The Gents will also return their second leading hitter from 2008, senior Tim Deering, who hit .318,  while Steele Lewis the squads four leading hitter from last season also comes back. The Kingsville, Ontario, native hit .303 with 10 extra base hits, which includes smacking two over the fence.  

 

For the Aggies this season, Caleb Shofner is hitting .900 after going 9-for-10, with a triple, a home run, while also knocking in five runs. Adam Smith, meanwhile, hit just .235, but had a team-best eight RBIs.

 

On the bump for A&M will be Ross Hales, who threw 2.1 innings and helped shutout WSU on Saturday. Wednesday’s hurler is still to be determined, but the Aggies will send either Chad Sherman or Scott Migl to the hill.

 

Following the two game series with Texas A&M, Centenary will return home for a showdown with Northern Iowa beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.
