Greg Gary begins his second year as the head coach of the Centenary men’s basketball program. Gary took over the reigns of the Centenary program last season and is the 20th head coach in the 85-year history of men's basketball on the campus of Centenary College.

Finishing with a Summit League record of 6-12 and advancing to the conference tournament in his first season, Gary's team had a four-game win streak in league play mid-way through the season, which was a season-best since joining the league in 2003-04. In the four previous seasons prior to Gary's arrival, the Gents had only won 10 conference games combined, which allowed Gary to come in and rebuild a thriving basketball program.

Gary came to Centenary after a one-year stint at Duquesne and a three-year stay at South Florida prior to that, brings 16 years of experience to the Gents program, all at the Division I level.

In his one season at Duquesne, Gary was part of a staff that led the Dukes to their first winning season since 1993-94 - and second in 22 years - with a 17-13 record in 2007-08. The '08 Dukes finished the season ranked in the top 10 nationally in four statistical categories: assists/g. (3rd), blocks/g. (3rd), scoring (5th) and steals (9th). The 82.3 points per game scoring average was the highest by a Duquesne team since 1974-75.

Gary spent six seasons as an assistant in the Big East at Miami (2000-01 to 2003-04) and USF (2004-05 to 2006-07, note: USF competed in Conference USA in 2004-05) prior to his arrival at Duquesne. No stranger to the state of Louisiana, he began his coaching career at Tulane (1993-94 to 1996-97) and returned to the Green Wave for two more seasons (1998-99 to 1999-00) after spending a year at McNeese State (1997-98).

Under head coach Perry Clark at Miami in 2000, Gary's responsibilities extended beyond on-floor coaching. At Miami, Gary supervised the academic program for the team and coordinated the offensive sets.

Gary assisted in developing a Miami program that reached the National Invitation Tournament in 2001 and the NCAA Tournament in 2002. En route to the NCAA appearance, the Hurricanes collected a school-record 24 victories. His recruiting efforts laid the groundwork for Miami's highly-respected 2006-07 backcourt.

In his second coaching stint at Tulane (1998-2000), Gary helped coach a team that reached the NIT in 1999 and 2000, working as the recruiting coordinator and academic coordinator in addition to his on-floor coaching duties.

During his first four-year tenure (1993-97) on Clark's staff at Tulane, the Green Wave went to the postseason each year, including an NCAA bid in 1995 and three NIT appearances (NIT Final Four in 1996).

Gary has accompanied teams to a total of eight post-season appearances and recruited or coached eight players who have spent time on NBA rosters.

A native of basketball-rich Anderson, Ind., Gary played point guard for three seasons at Tulane (1989-90 to 1991-92), where he helped revive the Green Wave program after the school had dropped basketball in 1985. Recruited to Tulane by then assistant Ron Everhart, Gary finished his career as Tulane's all-time assist leader. He capped his career by helping lead the Green Wave to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1992.

Gary graduated from Highland High School in Anderson, Ind. in 1988 prior to enrolling at Aquinas College in Nashville, Tenn. which was a junior college at the time. He transferred to Tulane following his freshman season.

Gary completed his bachelor's degree in sports management at Tulane in 1992.

Gary and his wife, Claudia, have three daughters, Gabrielle, Logan and Alexandra.
