SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary Gents baseball team, under the direction of seventh-year head coach Mike Diaz, announced the 2017 slate on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

The schedule features a trip to California, seven games against teams that made the NCAA Tournament in either 2015 or 2016 (UT Tyler and Trinity both for three games, one game at La Verne), five first-time opponents (one game each against La Verne, Redlands, Occidental, and Rust, with two contests against Northland College), four games against in-state rival Louisiana College, and a three-game series at East Texas Baptist, the best home run-hitting team in NCAA Division III in 2016.

“Our schedule is designed for us to play the best possible competition that will prepare us for conference and NCAA regional play,” explained Diaz. “I like the balance of this year’s schedule and am looking forward to our opening weekend in Southern California.”

The Maroon and White kicks off the season with a trip to the Golden State for a trio of road games against teams from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Gents play La Verne to with first pitch scheduled at 5 p.m. (3 p.m. PST) on Friday, Feb. 3.
