SHREVEPORT, La. – For the second straight day the Centenary baseball team used late inning heroics to earn a 4-3 victory over the University of Dallas. The win, which improved the Gents to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, secured a series win over the Crusaders.

Jemari James led the ninth inning off with a triple down the right field line and crossed the dish as wild throw escaped the grasp of UD third baseman Taylor Johnson.

Chase Clarke (2-0) logged the win on the mound as he locked down the UD batters with a strikeout and no hits allowed in the inning of work.

James, Tyler Clakley and Kiefer Moore each logged multiple hit performances in the decision.

Ryan Gasporra led off the scoring for the Gents with a two-run, homerun in the first inning. The homer marked the second of the weekend and season for the Palm dale, Calif., native as he cranked a solo shot in the first inning of the night cap of the Saturday doubleheader.

The Maroon and White plated its third run in the bottom of the second as a Kiefer Moore, RBI single scored Craig Littleman.

UD answered with a pair of runs in the third inning to cut the lead to a run as Tug McRoberts and Trevor Keele recorded RBI hits.

Both pitching staffs settled in the over the next few innings until the Crusaders broke the scoreless inning streak with a run in the eighth as Rene Vargas scored on a Gent error at the plate.

Keele (1-3) suffered the loss on the mound. Keele tossed the eighth and ninth frames with a pair of strikeouts recorded.

Cole Thompson pitched 7.2 innings in the start with three runs allowed – one earned – on nine hits and six strikeouts.

Grady Flournoy pitched a third of an inning with two walks in relief.

Centenary returns to the diamond on Saturday, Mar. 9 as the Gents host conference foe Trinity in a SCAC three-game series.
