SHREVEPORT, La. – The #14 Centenary Gents (23-7, 8-4 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) baseball team and the Centenary Ladies softball team (17-19, 6-14) both face a detour in the plans this weekend in a push to make the conference tournament.

#14 Diamond Gents Schedule and Conference Tournament Possibilities

Originally scheduled to play a single game on Friday night, April 15, and a double header on Saturday against #24 Texas Lutheran (21-10, 11-1 SCAC), the schedule will be flipped because of impending weather.

The Gents and Bulldogs will play two games on Friday, beginning at 3:30 p.m. The two teams will conclude the series with a single game Saturday at noon.

Texas Lutheran is the only team who has clinched a spot in the SCAC Tournament. Trinity sits idle this week in conference play, and just needs a Dallas loss or a pair of Southwestern losses (which one will happen as Dallas and Southwestern play each other) to clinch.

The Maroon and White currently sit third and hold a magic number of four (meaning Centenary needs a combination of four wins and Dallas losses) to clinch a berth in the conference tournament.

Centenary can still host the conference tournament. The easiest route is for the Gents to win out and Trinity has to lose one game at Austin to conclude the regular season.

Ladies Softball Schedule and Conference Tournament Possibilities

Also due to impending weather, the Austin College-Centenary softball series has been moved up from Saturday-Sunday to Friday-Saturday, April 15-16. The two teams will play a doubleheader both days, beginning at 5 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Ladies clinch a spot in the tournament with a win against Austin College or Schreiner losing at least 3-of-4 this weekend. The Mountaineers host Dallas.

So far, Dallas has clinched the third seed and Southwestern the fourth seed. Centenary will be the fifth seed as long as Schreiner does not win more than two games than the Ladies this weekend.

Trinity and Texas Lutheran battle this weekend for the first and second seed. While it is already determined the Tigers will be hosting the tournament, Trinity will be the second seed unless it wins three games this weekend. Should games not be played anywhere this weekend, seeding will be determined by winning percentage in conference games.

The Gents baseball team takes part in its final non-conference, regular season game Tuesday, April 19, at nationally-ranked UT Tyler before a three-game series at Dallas next weekend. The Ladies, should they qualify for the SCAC Tournament, return to action next Friday, April 22.
