Schimpf Named SCAC Player of Week; Gents Baseball Receives Votes in D3baseball Poll

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – On the heels of a weekend where Centenary (11-3) swept a four-game series with Rust, outscoring the Bearcats 80-5, senior Michael Schimpf received his second Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week honor in 2017 and his third time overall.

Also, released by Tuesday, February 28, the Gents received votes in the first regular season poll. Centenary found out it was ranked 17th in the latest NCAA Division III poll last week.

Schimpf had an outstanding series against Rust, going 8-for-9 (.888) with 10 RBI’s, seven runs scored, two doubles, and a triple. Through 14 games, Schimpf leads the conference in RBI’s (20) and slugging percentage (.783), and ranks second in runs scored (19) and hits (22).

Centenary returns to action Sunday, March 5, when it hosts Northland College for a double header. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
