SHREVEPORT, La. – The Gents offense could not take advantage of the Bulldog’s miscues as Centenary (24-6, 10-3 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Texas Lutheran (20-10, 11-2 SCAC) 11-0 Friday night, April 7.

With the game scoreless in the bottom of the second, junior Chris Zapata hit a fly to medium center. The second baseman went out and looked to have the ball in his glove, but the centerfielder ran into him and dislodged it to give Zapata his 10th double of the season. He was bunted to third, but a strikeout and a groundout kept Centenary off the board.

The Maroon and White could not score despite two Texas Lutheran errors.

Down 2-0 in the third, senior Aaron Quintanilla doubled with two outs and moved up to third on a wild pitch. Freshman Cody Crowder walked, but a groundout ended the Centenary threat.

Crowder led the Gents with two hits in three at-bats to reclaim the lead on the team in average (.441). Junior Kaleb Kirk (6-3) took the loss, allowing six runs and 11 hits with four walks and four strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.

After the Gents could not score in the second, Texas Lutheran took advantage with two runs in the third. With two outs and runners on the corner, Colby Schrade shot a double down the leftfield line to clear the bases. After single tallies in the third and fourth, Eric Rabinowitz in the seventh and Riley Schaefer in the eighth hit three-run home runs as the Bulldogs won the run-shortened contest.

Matthew Lemon and Schrade led Texas Lutheran with three hits each. Lemon scored a pair of runs and drove in one while Schrade scored once and added two RBI’s. Nathan Malinovsky (5-3) allowed five hits and one walk with three strikeouts in the complete game shutout.

Centenary returns to action tomorrow when it celebrates senior day following a doubleheader with Texas Lutheran. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
