CHICAGO – Sophomore Centenary gymnast Navia Jordan was named Midwest Independence Conference Specialist of the Week in a vote by the MIC’s six sports information directors released Tuesday, January 31.

This is the first time this year and the third time overall she has received this accolade.

“I am very proud of Navia for her performances this weekend. It was very nice to see her anchoring the line-up with strong routines both days,” said head coach Jackie Fain. “She has really become a leader on the competition floor for the Ladies.”

With the Ladies hosting a pair of meets this weekend, Jordan performed the final routine in both competitions. On Friday night against Wisconsin-Oshkosh, with the Maroon and White trailing by 0.525 going into the final routine, Jordan needed at least a 9.700 to cement the Centenary win. She answered, turning in the best performance of the night and her second-best score of her collegiate career on floor with a 9.875. Centenary claimed the close meet with the Titans, 191.450-191.250.

Jordan completed the weekend floor sweep on Sunday against Air Force, winning the event with a 9.800. Her score helped the Ladies surge past the Falcons on floor (48.550-48.525), but Air Force claimed the 192.000-190.650 win.

Competing on floor in three meets in 2017, Jordan’s average of 9.800 ranks first among NCAA Division III gymnasts, second in the MIC, and 26th in the Central Region.

Centenary gymnastics returns to action Friday, February 3, at the Iowa State tri-meet with fellow MIC member Southeast Missouri State. First rotation in Ames, Iowa, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
