Sophomore Ashley White kicks off 2016 with the first Gym Talk of the Regular Season
Wednesday, January 13, 2016

Hello Ladies and Gents! This is sophomore Ashley White, and I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break full of fun and laughter! As you guys were relaxing during the break, the Centenary Ladies returned to school early to begin preparing for our competition season, which started last weekend on Friday, Jan. 8th!

The Centenary Ladies kicked-off the season at Utah State University with our top 10 gymnasts! The line-up was: seniors Noel Stubbs, Megan Desjardins, Casie Hood, and Kellie Slater; juniors Taylor Le Moal and Allison Scates; sophomore Ashley White; and freshmen Navia Jordan, Elizabeth Sander, and Aspen Hattley. We began the meet on the uneven bars while Utah State began on vault. Casie Hood started off the Ladies on bars with a strong routine along with another beautiful routine from Megan Desjardins. Noel Stubbs also executed an excellent routine scoring a 9.475! Great job Seniors! Our bar line-up has the potential to earn our best scores ever during this 2015-2016 competition season!

Shout outs to Navia Jordan, Aspen Hattley, and Elizabeth Sander for giving it their all and executing some nice routines at their first collegiate competition! They performed well and diligently throughout the meet and earned some of the top scores on vault, beam, bars, and floor! Your training and preparation is paying off so keep on improving in the gym!

More shout outs to Kellie Slater for her fine performances on beam, and floor, and vault specialist, Taylor Le Moal, for her robust performance on vault! You guys consistently execute solid routines for the Centenary Ladies!

Another shout out to Coach Morgan and Coach Sylvia for doing a wonderful job at their first collegiate meet as assistant coaches! Their work ethic and guidance is teaching us how to better prepare for this season, and their dedication and motivation is a huge asset to the team.

Last but not least, a shout out to Allison Scates for remaining strong after taking an unfortunate, fall on floor during warm-ups; it did not stop her from cheering her teammates on! Not surprising to any of us, Allison encouraged us to maintain a determined and strong work ethic throughout the competition, and we fought diligently to execute our best routines! Right before the team was about to walk out onto the competition floor, our admirable and beloved Coach Jackie reminded us to take Allison’s drive and determination with us during the competition.

The Centenary Ladies are now back in the gym this week and next to prepare for our back-to-back competitions! We are working to increase our depth on each event. Mackenzie Packer, Tavia Smith and Kaity Mussio are working to step it up on bars, and all their routines are beautiful! Way to go, Mack, Kaity and T! You should also be on the lookout for Stephanie Strickler to begin her come back next week. We can’t wait to see her hit the competition floor again.  We are continuing to train twisting vaults, and getting more consistent bar, beam, and floor routines. Our next competition, is at the Gold Dome on Friday, Jan. 22nd.  The Ladies are working to come back stronger than our last meet! Please come out and watch us battle DI Southeast Missouri State University! We want to pack out the Gold Dome!!!

Following our home meet, we will be traveling to Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas on Sunday, January 24th to compete against TWU, SEMO, and Air Force Academy! We would love for you – our fans -- to take a road trip to Denton and cheer us on! We need you at our away meets! Thank you for your unfailing support!

Thanks for tuning into this week’s gym talk! I am extremely proud to be a part of such a spectacular team who is fighting its way to nationals! For me, being on the Centenary Gymnastics Team has made me a more dedicated athlete and student, and I am blessed to have exceptional coaches and teammates in my life. I cannot imagine life without them! Thank you, coaches and Ladies, for helping to transform me into the person I am today! I can’t wait to see what this season has in store for all of us! Go Ladies!!!

Love to all, Ashley White
