Making History

With the Ladies 70-64 win at East Texas Baptist and 67-65 buzzer beater against Hendrix in Jackson, Mississippi, it is the first time the Ladies started the season with a pair of wins since 1981-82, the first year of the program.

It was also the first time ever the Maroon and White won its season opener in consecutive seasons, having beaten Dallas Christian 84-60 November 13, 2016, in Dallas.

While the Ladies lost their first game of the season 76-64 at Millsaps Sunday, November 20, Centenary cut a 37-point fourth quarter deficit to 11. The 31 points in the final quarter is the most points in a quarter of Ladies basketball.

Making History x2

On Sunday, the Gents will honor senior James Sapp. In a 90-77 season-opening loss to East Texas Baptist, he became the 32nd Centenary basketball player to hit 1,000 points. A game later, with two offensive boards in the first minute of a 79-76 win against Hendrix, Sapp became the ninth player in Gents history to reach 700 boards. He currently ranks 31st in points and ninth in rebounds in the Centenary career annals.

Quick on his heels is junior Travion Kirkendoll. The leading scorer in the SCAC last season is just 74 points away from joining Sapp in the elite scoring club. Thanks to his first double-double of the season in a 76-60 win at Millsaps on Sunday, November 20 (12 points, 11 rebounds), Kirkendoll is fifth in the conference with 16.7 points per game. At the current scoring clip, Kirkendoll will reach 1,000 at home against Louisiana College on December 8.
