SHREVEPORT, La. – For the third time in four weeks and for the fourth time overall, senior James Sapp nabbed a Player of the Week honor. After winning two of the last three Louisiana Players of the Week, Sapp grabbed the honor from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Monday, January 30.

“We are pleased to get back in the win column, and James definitely played a big part in that this past weekend,” said head coach Adam Walsh. “His efficiency is getting back to where it belongs and doing what he is capable of doing. That is an important piece for our program to be successful.”

James hit 13-of-22 shots from the field and finished with 33 points in Centenary’s 89-80 loss on Friday. He followed that up with his 11th double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 boards in a crucial 89-74 Gents win at Texas Lutheran. He also added a career best six assists in the contest.

Sapp continues to lead the SCAC in both scoring (21.9) and rebounding (10.3) per game, ranking 25th and 37th in the country, respectively. He averages 23.8 points per game in SCAC play and has scored 28.2 points per game in the last five contests.

The SCAC Player of the Week nod was Sapp’s second of the season and ninth of his career.

Centenary returns to action Friday, February 3, at Colorado College. Tip is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (5:30 p.m. in Colorado Springs).
