Gents earn first SCAC win in Blowout

SHREVEPORT – It was all Gents Saturday night as they shot a season best 49.2 percent, and forced 22 turnovers in a big win over Southwestern 79-48. Centenary (4-2) snapped a two game losing streak and earned its first home and conference game win. 

Led by Simeon Brinkley with 9 points, the Gents shot well in the first half shooting 45.7 percent from the field. Centenary opened the game on a 7-0 run and never looked back. Centenary led 41-17 at halftime with 25 points coming off 19 Southwestern (1-5) turnovers.

The Pirates struggled from the field shooting 23.8 percent and didn’t score a field goal beyond the 9:16 mark in the first half. Centenary was on a 25-4 run during that time span.

It was a similar story in the second half, but Southwestern did improve in shooting at 35.5 percent. However, Centenary kept up the pressure and would push its largest lead of the night to 33 with 40 seconds remaining in the game.

JaColby Hardin-Crawford had a season and game high 16 points and 5 rebounds. Simeon Brinkley also notched a game and career high with 13 points, 9 coming of them coming in the Gents big first half. Caden Cheramie contributed 9 and Brooks Pawsat added 8. Saro Ntagha and DJ Hicks each pulled down a team high 6 rebounds, while Jarius Browning collected 5 and dished out 5 assists for a game high.

Centenary will wrap up its homestand with a nonconference game on Monday at 7:30pm against LeTourneau University.
