SEGUIN, Texas – The Centenary men’s basketball team held off a late charge at Texas Lutheran to claim a 76-71 victory moving the Gents to 9-8 overall and 4-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs fall to 7-11 and 2-6 in the league.

Jonathan Blount led the Maroon and White with 22 points as the Shreveport, La., native connected on 50 percent of his shots from the floor and behind the arc. The senior was also 80 percent from the free throw line. Caden Cheramie added 15 points while Kendall Demouchet rounded out the double-digit
scores with 10 points. Cheramie and Donovan Williams each grabbed a team-best seven boards in the decision.

After the two squads fought to a 34-all deadlock through the first 20 minutes, the Gents outscored the Black and Gold 42-37 in the second stanza.

The teams continued to exchange leads in the opening minutes of the second half, but at the 12:55 mark Centenary grabbed a 47-45 advantage off a jumper by Blount and never trailed again. The Gents pushed the lead out to as much as six points in the half, but had to hold off late surges by TLU the remainder of the way to avenge a 90-83 overtime setback last week.

The Bulldogs placed four players in the double figures led by 15 from Robert Watson, Jr. Garrett Wilkins and Joseph Richardson each added 13 points with Jordan Kourements chiming in 10 points. Donte McGee grabbed a team-leading seven rebounds.

As a team, Centenary was 40 percent from the three-point line en route to shooting 44 percent from the field.  TLU was 36 percent from the floor. The Gents
held the Bulldogs to 9 percent from behind the arc – a season-low for the Maroon and White’s opposition.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday as the Gents travel to Schreiner University. Tip is slated for 4 p.m.
