GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Gents held a 52-49 lead with 6:19 left in the game, but a six-minute scoring drought saw the Pirates take an eight-point lead as Centenary (13-10, 7-6 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Southwestern (10-14, 6-7 SCAC) 62-56 Saturday night, February 10.

Trailing 45-40, a 7-0 run put the Gents back up. Senior Travion Kirkendoll made a pair from the charity stripe and junior Kaharri Carter completed a three-point play to tie the game. Carter then made a jumper to put Centenary back in the lead. Later tied at 49, freshman Raylon Hardy hit a three to give Centenary what was its final lead of the game.

Carter led the Gents with 16 points, while Kirkendoll and Hardy added 10 points apiece.

With Southwestern down three, Kyle Howard hit a three to tie the game and jumpstart an 11-0 run for the home team. Brandon Alexander added his own three-pointer to put the Pirates up for good before Ryan Wheeler made 3-of-4 from the line. Luke Hicks added a pair of free throws to put Southwestern up 60-52 with 41 seconds left. Junior Treylan Matthews made a layup for Centenary with 24 seconds left to end the nearly six-minute drought.

Alexander led Southwestern with 20 points, while Wheeler added 12.

Centenary returns to action against Austin College next Saturday, February 17. Tip-off in Sherman, Texas, is set for 4 p.m.
