David Kaplan

Coach David Kaplan comes to Centenary after three years at South County High School in Northern Virginia. Prior to South County, he had a two year stint as Volunteer Assistant Coach at Gar-Field Senior High School under future VHSL Hall of Fame Coach Andy Gray. During his years at Gar-Field, the team went 44-6, including consecutive Regional Tournament appearances (a trip to the “Elite Eight” in 2011-2012), a perfect 22-0 home record during those two years.

Born and raised in Fairfax, Virginia, Coach Kaplan graduated from WT Woodson High School. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree from High Point University in recreation management in 2010, with a concentration in Athletic Coaching, receiving the Recreation Management Senior Award for the 2009-2010 academic year. He served as a player/coach of the HPU Men’s Basketball Team. Coach Kaplan also assisted with the women’s basketball program.

He has been an active volunteer with many local basketball leagues for more than 10 years.

For three year, Kaplan was the Tournament Director of the Turnpike Invitational Tournament, the oldest house league tournament in the Northern Virginia area. He handled scheduling, finances, marketing and other aspects of the tournament. In his career, he has coached four NCAA Division I players.

Kaplan has been a regular on the camp circuit working such camps as University of Virginia, Navy, Texas Tech, Lincoln Memorial, Davis & Elkins, Coach Wooten’s Camp and numerous high school camps. He also serves as a brother of the Alpha Phi Omega, which is a national Co-Ed Service Fraternity, and he has served as the community advisor the past six years at George Mason University.

He is a regular attendee of coaching clinics, and been privileged to sit-in on, and has observed countless college basketball practices including practices at Texas Tech, VCU, High Point, George Mason, Navy and Loyola Maryland among others.

Kaplan has coached multiple student-athletes who became NCAA basketball players, including three NCAA Division I basketball players, two Division II players and multiple Division III and JUCO players. A self-described “Basketball Aficionado” Coach Kaplan has been involved in athletics all of his life. He enjoys seeing people reach their full potential, helping young men through the game of basketball and looks forward to helping Centenary become the premier men’s basketball program in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference on and off the court.

David currently resides in Shreveport, Louisiana.
