TYLER, Texas – Jamie Gibson led Centenary at the UT Tyler Fall Invitational, but it was the host Patriots who captured the team title while Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Robby Schimmels took the individual victory.

Schimmels knocked off four strokes from his opening-day 74 to make up two strokes on UT Tyler’s John Dukes to force a playoff, where Schimmels prevailed at the par-71 Cascades Golf Club.

Gibson fired consecutive 77s to lead Centenary to an 11^th-place finish in the 12-team field, followed by Zander Winston, who sliced 11 shots off his first-round 83. Winston wrapped up the tournament three shots back of Gibson’s 154. Of the four Gents who played in both tournaments, Winston leads the crew with a 75.3 average and is the only golfer to break 70 with a 69 at the Derrall Foreman Invitational.

The Gents capped the tournament just one stroke behind Mississippi College and Hardin-Simmons. As a team, Centenary improved by twelve strokes, shooting a combined 322 Monday and 310 Tuesday.

Andres Forese and Matt Delaney helped shave 12 strokes as Forese fired a 78 Tuesday, five better than Monday’s 83. Delaney followed his first-round 89 with an 82. John Sidery finished between the two after firing a 78 Monday and an 85 Tuesday.

Heading into the tournament, Centenary was No. 6 in Division III with a 74.10 team average, just .10 points behind the University of New Orleans to break the top three. Oglethorpe’s 72.58 leads the country, followed by SCAC foe Trinity University (73.53).
