SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary lacrosse team dropped a 20-2 decision on Sunday afternoon against Southwestern University. The Gents fall to 0-3 on the season while SU improves to 3-2.
Dylan Sherman and Garrett Wick logged both scores for the Maroon and White. Sherman picked up his first of the season with 9:34 to play in the second quarter off an assist from Spencer Nelson. The goal nipped the lead to 6-1. The Pirates added seven goals following the score to press the lead to 13-1 at the half.
Wick’s goal, also his first of the season, came with 4:11 left to play marking the score at 19-2. Zack Haligman added the final Pirates’ goal with 3:38 remaining.
Matt Amerie led the Black and Gold with four goals in the contest, scoring on every attempt. Dakota Butler and Brandon Hanley each tallied three goals.
Coulton Toups (0-3) took the loss in net recording four saves against 20 goals in 56-plus minutes of play. Charlie Fisher logged the win between the pipes with a save and goal allowed.
Centenary returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Millsaps. Start is slated for 4 p.m.
