IRVING, Texas – Junior goalie Rylan Whan stopped his second penalty kick of the season just moments earlier, but Centenary (2-8, 1-5 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) surrendered a goal in the 86th minute as the Gents fell to Dallas (5-4-1, 4-1-1 SCAC) 1-0 Friday afternoon, October 2.

"It is hard to stay positive after a loss, but we played very tough on the road, and I was proud of the first 85 minutes," said head coach Emmett Rutkowski. "As a young team, you need to learn to battle a full 90 and overtime. As soon as this team learns to execute that gameplan, results will come."

In the 82nd minute, Centenary committed a foul in the box and the Crusaders received a penalty kick. The ensuing attempt went to the right for the post, but Whan swatted the ball away to deny the opposition on the penalty kick for the second time this season. The rebound hitter flew high and Centenary cleared the ball on a goal kick.

Dallas outshot the Gents 22-3 and 9-1 in corner kicks, but it was the Maroon and White who put strong opportunities together in the first half. In the 31st minute, Centenary received a free kick straight on right outside the box, However, senior Michael Pullano’s shot was blocked. A few minutes later, the Gents had a breakaway, but Centenary broke a bit early and was whistled for offsides.

The Crusaders picked the pressure up, grabbing six corner kicks in the second half and the penalty kick opportunity. In the 86th minute, Andrew Clancone crossed to A.J. Zaugg, who found Colton Allen sitting on left post for his second goal of the season.

The Gents return to action Sunday, October 4, when they take on Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at noon.
