HENDRIX, Ark. – For the second-straight game, a kick off the foot of freshman Travis Schantz led to a goal and helped the Gents claim a 1-0 win. At least this time, he got credit for his first collegiate goal.
Just two days after his long pass led to an own goal against Dallas, Schantz scored off a give-and-go from classmate Nic Douthit as Centenary (6-12) knocked off Hendrix (2-14) 1-0 Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 25.
In the 63rd minute, Douthit left the ball for Schantz at the top-left of the box. He found the back of the net to put the Gents on the scoreboard in what proved to be the lone goal of the contest.
With Schantz’s goal, five different Gents have a game-winning goal in 2016.
Freshman Lamarr Meza appeared for only the second time in goal for Centenary this year, making his first collegiate start. He grabbed five saves to record a win in his first collegiate decision.
Although Centenary outshot Hendrix 14-11, the Warriors held a slim edge against the Gents, 5-4, in shots on goal.
After the Gents scored the goal, Hendrix placed a trio of shots on target but did not score the equalizer.
Nathan Myers (2-12) saved 3-of-4 shots faced in goal for Hendrix.
Centenary concludes the 2016 season Saturday, Oct. 29, when it hosts Austin College for senior day beginning at 5 p.m.
