KERRVILLE, Texas – Freshman midfielder Zachary Kidder is acclimating himself to the college game quickly. In his collegiate debut, Kidder scored the game-winning goal against Schreiner Saturday night to extend Centenary’s winning streak to seven games dating back to last season, knocking in a 99th-minute goal. The Gents improve to 1-0, dropping Schreiner to 0-2. Centenary looks to extend its streak Monday at Texas Lutheran (0-1) at 2 p.m., following the Ladies noon contest. TLU dropped its season opener against Southwestern, 7-1. The Gents had less than a full week of practice after due to weather complications following Monday’s Mayor’s Cup “I’m proud of the way we stayed the course,” head coach David Orr said. “We weren’t as sharp as normal, but we kept at it and finished the game. It’s great to start 1-0.” Senior goalkeeper Robbie Ramirez collected two saves in the debut. SU goalie Tim Martinez knocked away four of the Gents nine shots. Centenary had no trouble being aggressively offensively in the first half, outshooting Schreiner 6-2. That reversed in the second half and each squad took a single shot in overtime. |
