TLU outlasts Gents; streak snapped

SEGUIN, Texas – Centenary’s seven-game winning streak came to an end Monday afternoon as Texas Lutheran down the visiting Gents 1-0 in men’s soccer action.

Both teams move to 1-1 on the young season and Centenary returns to action with its home opener Sept. 8 against Howard Payne at 7 p.m.

Gio Silveyra scored in the 26th minute thanks to an assist by Armando Roman. Silveyra used a header off a cross into the box to score net the game’s only goal.

Texas Lutheran edged Centenary 10-9 in total shots, each taking four on goal. Silveryra accounted for half in each column. Zachary Kidder and Brandon Heim were the only Gents with multiple shots, each taking two. Both of Heim’s were on goal.

Kellen Klaus, Gabriel Zahm, Matthew Fontenot, Spencer Nickerson and Clinton Azeez took a shot apiece in the slim loss.

Senior goalkeeper Robbie Ramirez collected three saves. TLU’s goalie, Jonathan Michael, had four.
