SHREVEPORT – After having its seven-game winning streak snapped, Centenary looks to start a new streak Saturday night as Howard Payne visits for a 7 p.m. contest at Mayo Field in men’s soccer action. Centenary (1-1-0) is off a 1-0 loss to Texas Lutheran Monday afternoon while the Yellow Jackets enter 1-0-1 after a season-opening 1-0 win over the University of Dallas and a 1-1 tie against Austin College Sept. 4. Head coach David Orr and the Gents said they are really looking forward to playing at home for the first time this year. “Our home field has been a major advantage for us,” he said. “For soccer, it’s been huge. It might energize us quite a bit. We had a very hot weekend in Texas last weekend and it’s been hot here this week. It should be nice and cool, and having Howard Payne come in, which is a good squad, I think we’ll be really energized.” Through the first two games, freshman Zachary Kidder leads Centenary in numerous offensive categories. The midfielder scored the Gents only goal of the year and has taken five shots. Senior Spencer Nickerson has four while three Gents have two apiece. Nickerson and Kidder are joined by Brandon Heim with two shots on goal to lead the squad. Kellen Klaus, Gabriel Zahm and Matthew Fontenot account for the remaining three of the Gents nine shots on goal. Including Saturday’s match, the Gents play six of their next eight games at Mayo Field. |
