Nickerson's goal not enough at LeTourneau

LONGVIEW, Texas – Senior forward Spencer Nickerson poured in his first goal of the year Tuesday night, but LeTourneau’s Mario Lopez added a second-half game-winner to give the YellowJackets their first of the season in men’s soccer action, 2-1.

Centenary falls to 1-3, extending its skid to three games, as LeTourneau improved to 1-4. The Gents have lost all three games by a single goal. Centenary looks to snap that streak Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. against Wiley College at Mayo Field.

Nickerson negated Jay Huemoeller’s goal in the 15th minute with his first score at the 39:52 mark. Nickerson attempted a game-high six shots, three on goal, and accounted for 60 percent of Centenary’s shots (6-for-10). He had all but one on goal (Cullen Gallet).

LeTourneau nearly doubled the Gents shot tally, taking 18, 10 on goal.

Edwin Raudales assisted both of LeTourneau’s scores.

Senior goalkeeper Robbie Ramirez picked up eight saves in the net, while his counterpart Anthony Martinez grabbed three saves.
