SHREVEPORT – Trinity’s Yuri Ribeiro netted two goals Friday afternoon as the nation’s top-ranked team spoiled Centenary’s Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference debut, 3-0, in men’s soccer action. The loss is the third straight for the Gents 2-6 (0-2), still looking for their first conference win. No. 1 Trinity stays unbeaten at 9-0-1 and jumps to 3-0 in league play. Centenary returns to action Sunday against Southwestern University at 1 p.m. to cap a three-game homestand. The Tigers dominated offensively, outshooting the Gents 34-5. Centenary mustered four of its five shots in the first 45 minutes, but was still outshot 19-4. Trinity outshot the Gents 15-1 in the second half. Spencer Nickerson led the Gents offense with three of the squad’s five shots, two on goal. Clinton Azeez and Daryn Beaugh attempted one shot apiece, both on goal. Jonny Lawson put the Tigers on the board first in the 16th minute with a second-chance shot from 10 yards out on the right side. Ribeiro finished the game’s scoring with goals nearly 66 minutes apart. |
