SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary men’s soccer team opened the 2013 season with 2-1 setback to East Texas Baptist University on Friday evening at Mayo Field.

Trailing 2-0 late in the waning moments of the contest Daryn Beaugh put the Gents on the board with the first goal – unassisted - of the season at the 89:15 mark. The shot was the only one taken on the night by the junior and just one of seven shots taken on the evening for the Maroon and White.

Cullen Gallet and Chris Berrios led the Gents with two shots each on the night as Cole Davidson and Mark Samadh tallied one apiece.

Centenary goalkeeper Austin Andrews (0-1) went the entire 90 minutes in net warning on five, Tiger shot attempts.

Jose Esparza placed ETBU on the board early scoring in the ninth minute of the contest on a kick from 30 yards out. Gustavo Vasquez extended the lead in the 74th minute with the Blue and Gold’s second goal of the night.

Cody Hopson (1-0) claimed the win for the Tigers with three saves.

ETBU posted 17 shots on the evening with seven coming on goal.

Centenary returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 5 as the Gents travel to Louisiana College. The match is slated for 7 p.m.
