GEORGETOWN, Texas – Both teams played to a scoreless tie for 57 minutes, but the Gents surrendered a pair of goals in quick succession as Centenary (3-3, 0-2 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Southwestern (3-3, 2-0 SCAC) Friday night, Sept. 16.

The Gents and Pirates both managed three shots in the first period with one on target. The Maroon and White put its only shot on target in the sixth minute, when sophomore Nick Hammond’s attempt was grabbed by Southwestern’s goalie Ryan Benner. Just a minute later, the home team’s second corner of the game was thwarted by Centenary senior goalie Rylan Whan.

The Pirates managed seven corners to one for the Gents in the contest.

Centenary picked up the early momentum early in the second half, but a transition goal put Southwestern up 1-0. After sophomore Colin Maloney put on a shot on goal, freshman Scott Halper’s attempt hit the crossbar in the 58th minute. Southwestern used that to push out in transition, as Carlos Huntley-Jimenez ran down the right side and crossed to Jake Swonke for the score.

Mason Tomasek added the insurance score for Southwestern just six minutes later as the Pirates won by two goals.

Whan (3-3) notched a pair of saves while Benner (3-2) grabbed all three shots faced.

Centenary returns to action Sunday, Sept. 18, at Texas Lutheran. Game time is set for noon.
