Butch Jordan

Butch Jordan begins his 17th year as the head coach of the men's and women's swimming program at Centenary in 2017-18.

He took over as the head swimming coach at Centenary in August 2001 when the athletic department announced it would add swimming to its varsity lineup. Jordan is no stranger to the swimming community as he has served as the head coach of the City of Shreveport Swim Team since 1975.

In his 16 years, the numbers are staggering: Centenary has amassed 102 All-Conference individual and 20 All-Conference relay performances, 20 Mid Continent/Summit League/Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimmers of the Week and 13 individual event and four relay conference championships. Jordan led the Gents to five-straight runner-up finishes in the Mid-Con/Summit League from 2007-2011 (despite not having a diving team) and captured Coach of the Year honors three times.

In the first year in the SCAC in 2012-13, Ross Olivier garnered Men's Swimmer of the Championship honors after he won the 200 back and 200 IM. He also finished runner-up to teammate Michael Schwandt in the 100 backstroke.

In the Summit League in 2010, Jordan won "Men's Coach of the Championship.". He also guided junior Devin Ross to a Conference Championship in the 50 Free in 2011 with a time of 20.31, which still ranks in the top-10 all-time in the Summit League through the 2015-16 season.

Ross also competed in the Olympic Trials in 2012.

On the Ladies side, Maggie Vaughan was named the Summit League Newcomer of the Year in 2006-07 after winning the 500 and 1650 free Conference Championship. She foillowed that up with a win in the 1650 free at the Conference Championships the following year.

The Gents not only excelled in the pool, but in the classroom, being named Summit League's Top Men's Swimming Team academically with 48 percent of its squad named to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence.

Jordan was instrumental in Olympic gold medalist, Cullen Jones' visit to Centenary in November 2010 where he spoke on behalf of "Make a Splash w/ Cullen Jones", a foundation to help prevent drowning amongst the youth.

Leading the Gents to a third place finish in the 2004-05 Mid-Continent Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, Jordan was selected as the Mid-Con Men's Coach of the Year. He was also picked as the conference coach of the year following the 2006-07 season as well.

Jordan graduated from Southern Arkansas University with a bachelor's degree in physical education in 1975. He was a four-year lettermen in swimming and won the conference championship four times.

Jordan now serves as the CEO of COSST. As a former coach of COSST, Jordan was named Louisiana "Coach of the Year" five times. He has also served as Senior Chairman, Age Group Chairman, Registration Chairman, and as Swim-A-Thon Chairman for Louisiana Swimming, Inc. Jordan has attended 12 World Swimming Coaches clinics as well as the Elite Coaches Seminar at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.

Jordan and his wife, Margaret, have two children, Mandy and Ty. Both children swam for COSST and both participated in collegiate swimming. Jordan likes to keep fit with bicycle racing and swimming.
