Gents sweep events, Ladies fall short against Hendrix

SHREVEPORT, La. – In their only home meet in the fall of 2015, the Ladies and Gents swimming teams put on a show. The Centenary men’s swimming team won every event, while the women’s team claimed six events win in a dual against Hendrix College Saturday afternoon, October 24, at the Centenary Fitness Center.

The Gents knocked off Hendrix, 111-40, with the women falling 114-86.

Senior Arash Ataei led the Gents with a pair of individuals wins and another as a member of the 200 yard free relay. Ataei began the day by taking the 200 yard free in 1:49.01, before swimming in an outside lane to take the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.26, just ahead of teammate sophomore Zack Harrison (1:00.75). He finished the day by teaming up with sophomores Mason Kay, Anthony McDonald, and Zack Harrison to take the 200 free relay, touching the wall in 1:30.78.

Along with the relay win, McDonald won the 100 IM with a time of 55.88 while winning the 500 free with a time of 5:00.56. Kay claimed the 50 free crown with a time of 22.98, touching the wall nearly three seconds faster than his competitor.

Harrison took the 1000 free with a time of 10:27.83.

For the Ladies, it was freshman Elena Ring that impressed in her first collegiate home meet. She began the day by teaming up with senior Chloe Snow, junior Jane Barney and sophomore Caitlyn Faulhaber to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:02.24. Individually, Ring claimed the 100 IM (1:05.79) and the 100 back (1:06.48). Besides the relay win, Barney won the 100 fly in a time of 1:04.53.

Senior Raquel Candal took the 200 free with a time of 2:10.02. She won the 500 free by nearly 20 seconds, clocking in with a time of 5:47.57.

In other events, junior Juan Tapia and freshmen Paul Ahluwalia, Stetson Carlile and Zach Norton took the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:46.80. Carlile won the 100 breastroke with a time of 1:06.36. Freshman Harrison Folse took the 100 free with a time of 52.98 while sophomore Roberto Roig Perez won the 100 fly with a time of 56.22.

The team of sophomore Anna Dunn, senior Daniela Ruelas, freshman Kelsey Keys and Candall finished second in the 200 yard free relay with a time of 2:01.30.

The Gents and Ladies swimming team returns the trip to Hendrix next weekend when they travel to Conway, Arkansas, for the Hendrix Relays and Hendrix Classic.
