Multiple Event Wins Highlight Swimming’s Senior Day Sweep

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary swimming teams concluded the 2016-17 regular season with the Gents and Ladies both picking up dual wins against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference-foe Austin College on Senior Day Saturday, January 14.

The Gents claimed an 80-61 win over the ‘Roos, while the Ladies won 78-52.

Junior Caitlyn Faulhaber and Sophomore Elena Ring led the way for the Ladies with two individual event wins and a relay win. Faulhaber and Ring teamed up with senior Cameron Barney and freshman Jessi Jordan in the 200 medley relay, touching the wall in 1:58.76, nearly 20 seconds faster than Austin College’s quartet.

Faulhaber swept both the sprint freestyle events, finishing first in a 1-2-3 Centenary sweep in the 50. Faulhaber finished with a time of 25.97, just ahead of Barney (26.68). Freshman Ellen Atkinson placed third with a time of 27.58.

Faulhaber won the 100 free, touching the wall in 59.09.

Ring and Jordan went 1-2 in the 200 IM with times of 2:23.25 and 2:23.43, respectively. Ring also rallied in the final 75 of the 500 freestyle for the victory in 5:54.87, 0.53 seconds faster than Sara Edzards of Austin College.

Junior Zachary Harrison paced the Gents with wins in the 100 and 200 freestyles. He led a trio of Centenary swimmers to finish 1-2-3 in the 200. Harrison touched the wall in 1:51.96, freshman Jordan St. Pierre clocked in at 1:54.59, and sophomore Harrison Folse recorded a time of 1:56.66.

Harrison took the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.63, while St. Pierre claimed his own win in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:10.90.

To round out wins for the Gents, junior Roberto Roig-Perez and sophomore Paul Ahluwalia finished in the top two spots in the 100 butterfly with times of 56.47 and 57.82, respectively.

On the Ladies side, Dunn claimed the 200 free title in 2:10.74. Dunn (1:11.08) finished second to Barney (1:04.98) in the 100 butterfly.

Freshman Lindsey Dettwiller (1:08.50) and Atkinson (1:10.07) took the top-2 spots in the 100 backstroke. Jordan (1:13.95) and freshman Tori Boyle (1:16.66) also finished 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke.

In a bit of a rarity in swimming this event, the Ladies team of Dunn, Boyle, Dettwiller, and Atkinson took the 100 freestyle relay title in 52.44.

The Centenary swimming teams close out the season February 8-11 at the 2017 SCAC Championships in Lewisville, Texas.
