LEWISVILLE, Texas – The Gents 800-free relay recorded the fourth-best time in school history to wrap up day one for the Centenary swimming teams at the 2017 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Lewisville, Texas, on Wednesday, February 8.
The Gents are sitting third in the championships with 88 points while the Ladies are fourth with 80 points. Trinity leads for the women’s championship with 110 points, while Southwestern leads for the men’s title with 112 points.
"We're off to a great start!" said assistant coach Kyle Joplin. "We had great swims and a lot of energy on the pool deck tonight."
The quartet of senior Juan Tapia, juniors Zach Harrison and Anthony McDonald, and freshman Eddie Dyess touched the wall in 6:57.93, nearly a full second ahead of Trinity. The fourth fastest time in school history, it serves as the fastest mark for the Gents in this event in six years.
The Gents 200 medley relay team also garnered All-Conference recognition by out-touching Colorado College in a battle for third place. Leading by just .14 heading into the freestyle leg, Harrison held off Crane Sarris for the Tigers by .02 to help the Gents secure All-Conference.
Joining Harrison was Tapia, McDonald, and junior Roberto Roig-Perez.
