Ryan Harrison Invitational slated for Nov. 17-18 in Gold Dome
Friday, October 26, 2012

SHREVEPORT – Centenary will host the Ryan Harrison Invitational Nov. 17-18 in the Gold Dome with tickets available for only $50.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.atlastennis.net.

Harrison is the grandson of former Centenary tennis coach Jimmy Harrison. The Ryan Harrison Invitational is a charity event to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. ATLAS, a non-profit tennis organization has donated $20,000 to encourage others to donate and participate in efforts to raise $25,000 for the WWP.

“I think the biggest reason it’s so significant is because Ryan’s grandfather was a coach. For him to come back, it shows a great deal about the family’s connection to the Shreveport area and Centenary College,” Centenary tennis head coach Todd Killen said. “This is going to be Ryan’s charity event, so it’s showing what he wants to give back to the community. And it shows what Shreveport’s given to him.”

Along with Ryan and Christian Harrison will be “The Bryan Brothers,” Mike and Bob Ryan, who are the No. 1 ranked men’s doubles team in the world and have 166 men’s doubles titles between the two of them. Ryan Sweeting and Scott Lipsky will also join the crew for the event.

“This should bring out people who are just common tennis fans,” Killen said. “I think they’ll come out and not just watch great tennis, but enjoy Centenary as well. But there is going to be great tennis coming here. There hasn’t been great tennis here in a long time. I’m looking forward to seeing some great matches here. This isn’t important just got Shreveport, but for Centenary too.

ATLAS will also be hosting a silent auction in conjunction with The Ryan Harrison Invitational, with items such as footballs signed by Drew Brees and Calvin Johnson, a David Toms signed Masters flag, a Dwyane Wade signed basketball, plus many other items.
