Tennis teams open SCAC Chmpionship against Austin College

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary tennis programs meet Austin College on the courts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Apr. 27 to open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship play. Both squads enter the field as the fifth seed in the tournament.

The Ladies finished the 2013 campaign with a 7-7 record while the Gents finished at 3-8.

Katelyn Alexander and Katie Cornwell each tallied 9-5 records in singles play and paired up for a 9-5 record in doubles action to lead the Maroon and White.

The duo proved mainstays in the lineup as Alexander competed as the No. 4 for the Ladies in singles action while Cornwell held down the No. 3 slot. The pairing posted a 2-1 record as the top doubles team for Centenary and went 7-4 as the No. 2 doubles squad this season.

For the Gents Anthony McMaster, Michael Reeks and Garrett Whipple each tallied winning records in singles action. Reeks claimed six wins on the season mostly at the No. 3 spot while McMaster and Whipple each tallied four wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 slots.

In doubles, Reeks and Whipple teamed up for three wins to tying the pairing of McMaster and Cameron Bueche for the team lead.
