Netters conclude season at SCAC Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Centenary tennis teams saw the 2013 campaign come to an end at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Trinity University. The Ladies fell 7-s on the opening day to Austin College while the Gents dropped a 7-2 decision to the Roos.

In the consolation bracket, both squads were swept 5-0 as the Ladies fell to Colorado College and the men dropped to Southwestern.

Against AC, Madelyn Mull and Katelyn Alexander each picked up three-set wins for the Maroon and White. Mull claimed a 3-6, 7-6, 10-8 win over Lizzie Flint in the top singles slot of the match while Alexander also forced a three-set match in the No. 4 spot winning at 1-6, 7-5, 10-4 to Ashley Hellman.

Michael Reeks played a part in both wins for the Gents as Reeks claimed the No. 1 single postion 6-3, 6-0 over Tyler Roush. Reeks along with Adam Ghaemmaghami also set back the pairing of Roush and David Smith with an 8-4 win in the top doubles position.

In Sunday’s action both squads’ top double spot took a tiebreaker to decide. The team of Reeks and Ghaemmaghami gave the SU pairing of Egan Cornachione and Sam McCready all they could handle before falling 9-8 to the Pirate’s duo. The team of Katie Cornwell and Alexander also dropped a 9-8 decision to the Colorado College team of Mary Edman and Katie Patterson.
