Saturday, August 28, 2004

SHREVEPORT- Riding the momentum of Friday’s 2-1 win over UT-Tyler, the Centenary Gents came back in the last minutes to tie William Carey 3-3 at Mayo field on Saturday.

Centenary came out strong in the first half and scored first when senior Michael Krulin lobbed a shot up and over William Carey’s wall and through the goal posts off a free kick. William Carey senior Eric Diaz answered back knocking the ball over the goal line off a corner kick in the 13th minute. The aggressive play continued, as William Carey was able to score one more goal from deep in the left corner before the half time buzzer.

The Gents battled back in the second half getting pushed down inside the box. Senior Greg Clarke strategically knocked in his second penalty kick of the exhibition season. With Centenary down by one, William Carey midfielder Colin Hoey received a red card, which forced his team to play one man down. With less than two minutes on the clock, senior Jeffrey Krulin tied the game with a powerful shot to the back of the net.

The Gents will travel to Memphis next weekend to participate in the Memphis Soccer Tournament playing Memphis on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Georgia State on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
