Thursday, September 23, 2004

CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Centenary women’s soccer team dropped their first conference match, 0-1, at Southern Utah. The loss is the second straight for the Ladies (5-2-1, 1-1), while the victory moves the Thunderbirds (3-5-0, 2-0) into first place in the Mid-Continent Conference standings.

Southern Utah took the lead in the 33rd minute as Sarah Sillitoe drilled a free kick from 30 yards out past Centenary keeper Lindsay Stafford. The Ladies failed to respond despite equaling the Thunderbirds shots on goal, and more than tripling their corner kicks, 10-3. Centenary was also forced to play a man down for over 20 minutes after senior Mindi Levinski was issued a red card in the 69th minute.

The shutout loss was the first this season for Centenary and also marked the first scoreless match for leading scorer Tara Sageser, who tallied a game high five shots. Despite earning the loss, Stafford collected five saves while facing 15 shots on the day.

Centenary will stay in Cedar City to face UC-Riverside on Saturday before heading home for a six game home stand.
