Gents Fall in Exhibition Soccer Match to Northeastern State

SHREVEPORT -- On a hot and humid Saturday evening the Centenary men’s soccer team fell in an exhibition contest to Northeastern (Okla.) State, 7-2. The Gents were paced by junior Aaron Volanski (Magnolia, Texas) and Sam Robinson (Houston, Texas), who each put a ball in the back of the net.


Volanski and freshman Dragan Hinic (Belgrade, Serbia) led Centenary with seven combined shots on the evening. Hinic also gave an assist on Robinson’s breakaway goal in the 77th minute.


Northeastern State was led by Paul Marshall and Sean Hughes, who each scored two goals on Saturday. Hughes hit pay dirt in the second half, while Marshall scored his goals in each period.


Between the posts for the Gents was senior James Speed (Corpus Christi, Texas), who had two saves, while his counterparts Ransone Rose and Devon Murray made just one save.


The Riverhawks just outshot Centenary 13-12, with the Gents getting edge in the corner kicks 5-2.


Centenary will continue its exhibition schedule on Wednesday when it travels to Tyler Junior College for a 7 p.m. kick-off. The Gents will then conclude the exhibition portion of their schedule Saturday when they travel to LeTourneau
