Ladies Set for Louisiana Tech Invitational
Thursday, August 30, 2007

SHREVEPORT—The Centenary volleyball team will make the one-hour trip east on I-20 to take part in the Louisiana Tech Invitational Friday and Saturday. The Ladies face the host Lady Techsters at 12 p.m. Friday before locking up with Southeastern Louisiana for a 3:30 p.m. match. The tournament will conclude on Saturday with either championship round play or a consolation match-up.

The Ladies (0-3) are looking to reverse their fortunes after starting the season with three losses in the Texas A&M Invitational last weekend. The team started to form some chemistry in the third match and looks to carry that momentum into this weekend’s event. Junior Ashlee Freeman was named to the all-tournament team after collecting 34 kills.

Centenary and Louisiana Tech (1-3) will battle each other for the third consecutive season, with the Lady Techsters winning each of the last two meetings. Overall, Louisiana Tech holds the advantage in the all-time series 30-7. Tech is coming off of three straight losses to Lamar, Oral Roberts, and Texas-Arlington after winning their season-opener over Rice.

Friday’s contest with the Ladies will be the season-opener for Southeastern Louisiana who did not compete at all last weekend. The Lions are coming off of a 4-27 campaign last season, but have bested Centenary in 21 out of the last 22 meetings. These teams last met in 2005 on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana where SLU won 30-24, 30-24, 30-25.

Centenary, Louisiana Tech, and Southeastern Louisiana comprise Pool A of the tournament while Southern Mississippi, Central Arkansas, and Jackson State make up Pool B. Saturday’s matches will be determined based on the records of the teams after Friday’s play.
