Friday, August 31, 2007

JONESBORO, Ark. – On Friday night the Centenary women’s soccer team fell down 1-0 in the 29th minute of action to Arkansas State, but just right before the half sophomore Brittany O’Neal (Nacogdoches, Texas) shifted the momentum back toward Centenary’s way when she hit pay dirt to tie the match. Then nearing the midway point of the second half, sophomore Stefani Robbs (Farmers Branch, Texas) netted her first goal of the season to break the tie and give the Ladies the 2-1 victory.

One of the stars of the game was senior Ali Hilsher (Tulsa, Okla.), who had to make six saves in 90 minutes of work. The Centenary offense forced the Indians goalkeeper into four saves, with O’Neal and freshman Candace Rushing (Cordova, Tenn.) leading the Ladies with three and two shots respectively.

Despite the five shots from O’Neal and Rushing, ASU had 12 shots on the night, with six coming in each half. The Ladies, meanwhile, had five shots in the first stanza and four in the second period.

Centenary begins the season 1-0, while Arkansas State starts its 2007 campaign 0-1. The Ladies will be back in action on Sunday at Arkansas-Little Rock at 4 p.m.
