SHREVEPORT – After being shutout in the last three matches, the Centenary women’s soccer team wasted little time putting that streak behind them, as sophomore Brittany O’Neal netted her first of two goals in the fourth minute of action. The Ladies (4-6-0) went on to defeat Nicholls State (1-9-2) 4-1 on Friday night.

After scoring her fifth goal of the year, O’Neal then went on to feed her classmate Stefani Robbs in the 22nd minute. Just under one minute later, O’Neal was back at it again, as she hit paydirt for the sixth time this season.

However, the shutout was ended when Nicholls scored just two minutes later off of a corner kick when Heather Gamble got her head on the ball. Gamble’s goal was just one of two shots NSU got off in the first half.

In the second half sophomore Lauren Cheaney scored her first goal of the year, as she put the ball to the high 90. Cheaney received the ball from O’Neal, who now has a team-high three assists.

Between the pipes for Centenary was senior Ali Hilsher and sophomore Kate Donnelly. Hilsher picked up her fourth win of the year, while Donnelly made two saves in the second half. Nicholls keeper Molly Mersereau made made four stops, but allowed four goals.

Centenary will now look to move closer to .500 as the Ladies travel to Tulsa on Sunday to play Oral Roberts in their Summit League opener. Centenary will be back home on Wednesday to host Southern Utah at 7 p.m.
