FORT WAYNE, Ind. – After a scoreless first half, senior forward Aaron Volanski helped the Centenary (2-8-0, 1-1-0) men’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over IPFW (3-8-1, 0-2-0) on Friday night in Summit League play. Volanski’s goal was his nation leading ninth of the year.

Volanski, who scored the goal on a penalty kick in the 51st minute, also had two shots on goal and four total. However, freshman Josh Gomillion had a team-high five shots, while IPFW’s Jorge Ramirez had a match-best seven.

On the offensive side of the field the Mastodons had 20 shots, while the Gents had 16. Defensively Centenary made seven saves in the match, while IPFW had six.

Between the posts for the Gents was senior James Speed, who had six saves, while IPFW’s keeper Josh Howell also had six stops. However, the biggest save of the night did not come from a goalie; it was made by freshman defender Keegan Walhood, who had a block late in the match to help preserve the win.

The next action for the Gents will be on Oct.13, when they host Oakland at 1 p.m.
