ELMHURST, Ill. – After scoring eight goals for the Centenary men’s soccer team in the season’s first month, senior forward Aaron Volanski received The Summit League Athlete on the Month award on Wednesday.

In August and September, Volanski ranked second nationally in goals, was fourth in goals per game (0.89) and 12th in points per game (1.78).

The Magnolia, Texas, native also scored his first career hat trick against IUPUI on Sept. 23. Volanski helped lead the Gents to victory against Belhaven on Sept. 12 with a pair of goals. He also scored the only two goals for Centenary against Marshall on Sept. 16, which helped him earn the conference Offensive Player of the Week honor.

During the month, Volanski had one game-winning goal and was 2-for-2 in penalty kicks.  He also had 34 shots, 19 of which landed on goal, while also having a .235 shot percentage and a .559 shot on goal percentage.

Volanski joins swimmer Maggie Vaughan, who won the award in February and pitcher David Kiefer, who took the honor in March of 2005.

Volanski and his teammates will be back in action on Saturday when they host Oakland at 1 p.m for a pivotal conference match.
