Thursday, October 25, 2007

TULSA, Okla. – Playing in its final nonconference game of 2007, the Centenary (3-10) men’s soccer team was downed on Thursday night by the seventh ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane (9-2-2) 9-0. The Gents will now focus on their next opponent, Summit League rival Western Illinois on Saturday, as they try to make a bid for the conference tournament.

On Thursday, Tulsa started its scoring spree in the fifth minute, and then again in the eighth minute. However, the Golden Hurricane were not done as they found the back of the net two more times before the first period ended.

Senior James Speed started the match and made three saves in seven chances in the matches first 45 minutes, while freshman Rennie Walker played the next 45 and also made three stops in eight opportunities.

Freshman Dan Martens and junior Will Todd led the offense with three combined shots on goal. As a team, the Gents had seven shots on the evening, while Tulsa came away with 27.

The Gents will have Friday off before they travel to Macomb, Ill., to play Western Illinois on Saturday. If Centenary defeats the Leathernecks, and Oral Roberts beats UMKC, the Gents will make their first trip to the Summit League Tournament.
