Westerwinds Breeze Past Ladies 3-0

SHREVEPORT—The Western Illinois volleyball team improved its Summit League record to 8-3 with a 3-0 win over Centenary in the Gold Dome on Friday evening. The Westerwinds defeated the Ladies 30-11, 30-14, 30-13 while committing only five errors in the victory.


Centenary (1-24, 0-11 Summit) never led in the match and struggled to get anything going on offense. The Ladies hit -.047 on 21 kills and 27 errors in 127 attempts. Ashlee Freeman’s six kills were a team-high for the Maroon and White.


Conversely, Western Illinois (11-12, 8-3 Summit) was clicking on all cylinders offensively. The Westerwinds were sharp, pounding down 47 kills on just five errors in 111 attempts for a hitting percentage of .378. No WIU player tallied more than eight kills, but the balanced attack sported four players (Amy Sauerwein, Michelle Donnelly, Monique Houston, and Emily Harrison) with eight kills.


Sarah Trimpe dished out a match-high 28 assists for Western Illinois while Lindsay Muehlbauer collected 17 digs.


Lindsay Bekelja’s 15 assists and Yvonne Ramirez’s 15 digs paced Centenary.


The Ladies host UMKC in their final home match of the season tomorrow at 5 p.m.
