Gents Swimming Splits Metroplex Meets

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Centenary men’s swimming team blanked Northern Arizona (85-0), dominated Incarnate Word (60-41) and UT-Permian Basin (66-27), but fell to TCU (71-28) on Friday at the TCU Dual Meet. However on Saturday, the Gents stayed in the Metroplex, but fell to SMU 113.5-69.5.


Centenary got things started on Friday with a third place finish in the 200 yard Medley Relay by the team of junior Bryan Myers, sophomores David Moss and Wladimir Montoya and Josh Pena (1:39.48).


In the 100 yard Butterfly, Montoya (52.33) won an exciting race over Incarnate Word’s Sean Reeves by two hundredths of a second. The 200 yard Freestyle Relay team of Pena, Myers, junior Chase Lambert and Montoya finished second (1:28.59).   


Freshman Arron Otto (55.92) and senior Kyle McKee (1:02.81) finished third in the 100 yard Backstroke and Breaststroke. During the 400 yard Freestyle Relay, Lambert, Montoya, Pena and senior Adam D’Aquin were able to hold off Incarnate Word by fourth hundredths of a second (3:14.45) to finish second.


During Saturday’s swim meet at SMU, Centenary had nine second place finishes, which came in eight of the first nine events. Montoya tied for second in the 200 yard Freestyle (1:45.89), while Lambert (48.38) finished just a second behind first place Greg Doughty of SMU in the 100 yard Freestyle.


The Gents will be at Hendrix College on Friday and Saturday for the Hendrix Classic and Relays.
