SHREVEPORT—Centenary head volleyball coach Dan Gwitt has announced that Erika Lunsford signed a National Letter of Intent in the early signing period to join the Ladies in 2008. Lunsford is the first signee for the new coach since being appointed to the position on November 19th.

Looking to rebuild and start fresh, Gwitt got a good jump start on his recruiting season by inking Lunsford, a middle blocker, out of Richland High School in North Richland Hills, Texas. At 6’5”, she is thought to be the tallest player ever signed by the Ladies.

Lunsford was named the Offensive Player of the Year in 2006 and 2007 and garnered Academic All-District honors in both of those seasons as well. She also set school season and career records for solo blocks, block assists, and service aces. In addition, she graduated in the top 10% of her class and is a member of the National Honor Society.

“Erica is a very special young adult, possessing both talent and potential on and off the court,” said Gwitt. “With her size, she will immediately be a presence felt throughout The Summit League. Erica will be a great fit for Centenary and for the direction in which I want to lead this program. She is the start of a new beginning of Centenary Volleyball and the first of many new recruits to come this off-season.”
