SHREVEPORT – The Centenary men’s and women’s swimming team combined to win seven events on Saturday against TCU, but it was enough, falling 197-161. The TCU women defeated the Ladies, 102-73, while the Gents fell, 95-88.

Centenary got its first win in the mixed 1000 yard Freestyle, as senior Ross Gilbert (10:08.72) defeated sophomore Maggie Vaughan by almost 30 seconds. The Gents again took first place in the 200 yard Freestyle, as freshman Josh Pena (1:51.33) won by two tenths of a second over classmate Rourke Barrett (1:51.54).

In the 50 yard Freestyle senior Melanie Zimmerman (26:52) edged out junior Alana Gregory (26.54). Sophomore Leslie Wyatt (2:16.95) had no problems winning the 200 yard IM, as she was almost 15 seconds faster than her closest competitor.

Junior Bryan Myers (2:06.80) won first place in the 200 yard IM, but unfortunately the team could not get another win until the 500 yard Freestyle when Vaughan (5:10.97) took top honors. Centenary’s last first place winner was sophomore Quinn Larwood (4:59.73), who was victorious over fellow sophomore Clay Malinovsky (5:00.50) by less than a second in the 500 yard free style.

The Ladies and Gents next action will be on Feb. 21-23 at the Summit League Championships.
