Centenary Gymnasts Ready for Busy Weekend
Thursday, March 13, 2008

SHREVEPORT—The Centenary gymnastics team is raring to go after waiting almost two weeks to compete. The Ladies have not seen head-to-head action since they hosted LSU in the Gold Dome back on March 2nd, but will make up for it by participating in a meet at Texas Woman’s University on Friday and hosting a meet at home with Kentucky on Sunday.

Friday’s competition will be the second time Centenary has gone to Denton, Texas, to visit the home of Texas Woman’s University this season. The Ladies came up short in the first meeting, but look to avenge the loss with a solid performance this time around.

Centenary and Texas Woman’s University looks to be two of the favorites when the USA Gymnastics National Championships roll around in mid-April. The Pioneers are ranked number one in the USAG standings, while the Ladies currently occupy third place.

Individuals to watch on Friday from the two schools are Courtney Arno-Templet, Amie Boles, and Nicole Poling of TWU and Laura Loy, Marissa Schneider, and Meredith Smith of Centenary.

Boles leads the USAG rankings on the floor exercise, while Poling is second on the vault. Arno-Templet is tops on both the bars and beam for the Pioneers. Loy is second on the beam, Smith is third on the vault, and Schneider is fourth on the floor exercise for Centenary.

Other teams taking part in the meet on Friday include Kentucky and Utah State. Kentucky is ranked 23rd in the national rankings and Utah State is 45th.

The Ladies will host Kentucky in a dual meet in the Gold Dome on Sunday at 2 p.m.
