ELMHURST, Ill.—The Summit League office announced today that Centenary softball players Lauren Flowers and Lauren Highsmith have been chosen as the conference Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively. The duo played vital roles in the Ladies’ 6-0 week involving two Summit League series sweeps over UMKC and Oakland that kept Centenary atop the conference standings at 9-0.

Flowers hit .412 (7-for-17) over the six games and posted an .882 slugging percentage and a .524 on-base percentage. In the first game against UMKC, she blew the game open with a three-run homerun in the seventh inning. She also walked with the bases loaded in game three against the Kangaroos and game one against Oakland to force in eventual game-winning runs. Flowers also blasted a two-run homer for the game-winning runs in game three against Oakland. She had seven RBI and scored four times on the week while adding a pair of doubles.

Highsmith picked up a pair of saves while dominant in four relief appearances last week. The Centenary closer posted a 0.00 earned run average, surrendering just one hit, while striking out seven in 7.1 innings of work. She pitched three shutout innings to earn a save against UMKC to begin the week. Leading 2-0 against Oakland, she entered in the sixth inning and recorded a crucial bases-loaded strikeout to get out of the jam. She then tossed a scoreless seventh inning for her second save of the week. Highsmith currently leads The Summit League with five saves, four more than the next closest pitcher.

Flowers, Highsmith, and the rest of the Ladies will take the field on Wednesday in hopes to push their current win streak to a school record-tying 12 games against Southeastern Louisiana at 6 p.m.
