Whitmer Dubbed Summit League Pitcher of the Week
Monday, April 7, 2008

ELMHURST, Ill.—The Summit League office announced on Monday that Centenary’s Stacy Whitmer has been selected the conference’s Pitcher of the Week. The honor is the fifth of the year for a member of the Ladies pitching staff. All three of Centenary’s pitchers have won the award this season as Whitmer joins teammates Ryan Thacker and Lauren Highsmith on the list of 2008 recipients.

Whitmer began the week by tossing five shutout innings in a 1-0 victory against Stephen F. Austin. She allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out eight. The win was the 14th straight for the Ladies.

The sophomore followed that performance with 6.1 innings of work in game one against South Dakota State. She did not factor in the decision, but was affective, surrendering one earned run and fanning four. Whitmer also pitched in the final game against SDSU, going five innings on two hits and two runs in relief. She struck out seven and earned the win in extra innings.

For the week, Whitmer was 2-0 with a 1.29 earned run average. She struck out 19 in 16.1 innings and allowed three earned runs. Batters hit a meager .158 against the hurler and she now has won her last eight consecutive decisions.

Whitmer and the rest of the Ladies will put their 12-0 home record on the line when they host North Texas in a doubleheader on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
