Ninth Place Finish for Ladies at Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Centenary women’s golf team cut strokes off its score after each round, but it wasn’t enough. The Ladies (334-330-327) finished the Claude Jacobs Intercollegiate in ninth place with a score of 991, which was 87 strokes behind Sam Houston State, who won with 914.


Leading Centenary was junior Jessica Garza (80-80-77), who finished in a tie for 21st after shooting 237. The third-round 77 was the lowest score for the Ladies during the two-day event.


Senior Chloe Mims (83-78-84) completed her portion of the tournament in a tie for 39th after shooting 245. Junior Leigh Newton (82-90-84) was the Ladies other top 50-finisher she closed out her three-rounds with a 256, which was good enough for 49th place.


Rounding out Centenary’s golfers were juniors Tracy Williams and Bethany Cox, who finished in 52nd and 60th place. Williams (94-82-82) had a final score of 258, while Cox (89-95-89) had a three-round score of 273.


The Ladies next competition will be at The Summit League Championships hosted by Western Illinois on April 19.
